Cape Town is still on fire (pics)

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Last night when I was driving back from Stellenbosch, I drove right into a thick cloud of smoke so dense that even with my headlights on bright, it was hard to see further than a few meteres. It seems Cape Town is on fire again, this time Devil’s Peak.

Possible UFO sighting in Cape Town?

Sunday, March 1st, 2009

I don’t know how many people saw the picture of an unidentified flying object that was taken in the South Eastern Siberian city of Chita, Russia a while ago, if you haven’t seen the article, click here to view the original article.

I’ve just taken a picture (with my crappy 3.2 Megapixel camera) of something resembling the same shape than the one taken in Russia, using a pair of binoculars, I can confirm that it looked similar in shape, have no idea what it is though. Anyone else seen the strange triangular, pyramid shaped object hovering around in mid air?

Cape Town Greenpoint stadium making good progress towards 2010

Sunday, February 1st, 2009

To all the sceptics saying they’ll never finish with the stadiums on time, the engineers and people doing the actual work on the Greenpoint stadium in Cape Town, are working very long hours (at least that’s what a couple of post-grad engineers working on the project told me) and by the look of it, they might actually finish on time.

Earthdance 2008

The theme for this year’s Earthdance is Honoring the Earth with the focus on saving the forests and the preservation of pristine wilderness zones, something which is really close to my heart while combining it with my favorite genres of music. A prayer for peace will be done at all three parties, the Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg event, all at the same time. Besides the creating awareness of our destructive influence on mother earth, the event is about the music after all, here’s the lineup for Earthdance Cape Town:

Eye of Horus, a place for metal heads

Sunday, April 6th, 2008

Eye of Horus

If you’re anything like me, you’ll be completely against going into a club / bar where the music sucks, especially if the club is mostly playing commercial or even worse, POP / R&B / HipHop / RAP. Luckily a new place opened for likeminded people, a place where you’ll never hear sokkie music (if it can be classified as music) or any of the crap you’ll get in places like Preslys (where the bouncers look like Debonairs’ delivery people), Nkitas (where the people dance like chickens and think they’re really cool for mastering the nandos move), Player’s Pub (where under 18’s think it’s cool to drink and puke all over the place), Stones (where the DJ can’t even master a 3 millisecond cross fade without messing it up) or similar unclassy places.

Eye of Horus is metal only, the bouncers look like they might bite of your head if your ID / drivers doesn’t say 18+ (thank goodness for that), the service at the bar is good, beautiful ladies dressed in mostly black, the way it should be, nice comfy sofas for those used to the luxury in classy places, four plasma screens, three for displaying various sport channels and another one for the music video of the current song playing, a pool table where you can play against the jocks and wipe that creepy smile of their faces (you’ll get jocks in just about every club, just not as many in this place) and just an overall good vibe booming from the place’s sound system.

The owner, Ryno de Villiers, is constantly running around making sure everything is running smooth, for example, last night one of the plasma screens suddenly lost signal, one of the waitresses informed the owner and within minutes the wrestling channel was restored, good job man!

Dress code is, be yourself, as long as you don’t wear open shoes, open shoes are kind of dangerous with the occasional glass shattering on the floor. The general trend is black. Cover charge is R20 which will give you a beautiful red Eye of Horus stamp. As I mentioned earlier, no under 18’s.

Directions: coming from the Tygervalley side, go down Durban Road and make a left turn into the area where Toys R Us (and the infamous Teasers) are located, drive on until you find Raglan Street on your left, turn left in Raglan Street and the club is approximately 20m into Raglan Street (next to the chemist)
