One thing that particularly strikes me in the newly released movie Iron Man, is the amount of advertising done for Audi, every car of which you can see the front, is an Audi. The scene where Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) is 3 hours late for his plane, an Audi R8 comes racing to the airport, exactly the same scenario where he’s late for the beneficiary party. Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) suddenly jumps into an Audi R8 and pulls off. Lt. Colonel James (Terrence Howard) also pulls away in an Audi R8 after visiting Tony Stark. Then there’s the scene where the Audi Q7 nearly crashed into the Ironmonger, special care was taken to emphasize the Audi’s braking abilities as the camera’s focus was purely on the distance between the Ironmonger and the front of the Audi Q7.
Taking a look at these behind the scene stunt footage, you’ll probably understand why they had to smash so many Audi’s before realising that the car borders on indestructible:
Iron Man also became Audi’s new mascot looking at: http://microsites.audi.com/ironman/index_standalone.html?language=en
My opinion? The movie is entertaining in its own unique way, if its purpose was to advertise the Audi R8, then it did on helluva good job. If you’re not bothered about realism or enjoyed transformers, you’ll definately enjoy this one as well.

Actually all the R8’s you mention are the same R8.
Tone Stark owns (from what I could see) a Ferrari F430, an Audi R8 and some type of custom built hotrod… and then 2 bikes.
The only car among those that can be considered an “everyday” car, but is also flashy enough to drop you off at a party, is the R8.
The rest I agree with. The braking distance, the massive pullaway after he puts the car down, the flying camera that practically falls into the back of the R8 when he’s driving through the desert…
But it doesn’t in any way diminish the movie. It was done in a classy way. Like the Coca Cola adverts in Hackers back in 1995.
Good point, maybe I can borrow it for a spin as well :p
Definitely done in a classy way, after seeing the movie, my stance towards the Audi R8 changed, it’s now another favorite of mine with the Lamborghini’s still at the top.
